Check the name.
Understand the result.
A company name search is the beginning of your research. Here’s what our check is designed to tell you.
The businesses.ie API is not connected yet. Check names on the official CRO register, or preview a sample result.
Namecheck.ie, hoster.ie and Businesses.ie are services operated by Configurix Ltd, CRO number 808025. We promote our own hoster.ie domain service. Businesses.ie is the planned register-data service; its API is not connected yet. Read our disclosure.
Search first, commit later.
The planned search uses CRO register data from businesses.ie to help identify existing or similar company names. We will display the search time, the provider’s data update time, and matching records where available.
A promising starting point
No match was returned by the search. Review the naming rules and wider brand rights before applying. This does not guarantee approval.
Take a closer look
One or more names may be close to yours. Inspect the records and consider a more distinctive option.
Revisit your shortlist
An existing name matches the search. Consider another name and confirm your options with your formation agent or the CRO.
Three different questions.
A company name check, a trade mark search and a domain check each answer a different question. A clear result in one does not settle the others. Only the CRO makes the company name registration decision.
From the result to your next step.
After a no-match result, we show three formation providers and domain suggestions from your proposed name. Visit the providers to confirm packages and check domain availability on hoster.ie. You choose the service and purchase directly.
Try the customer journey.
The sample uses fictional records so you can see clear, similar and exact-match result states. Every sample is labelled as a demonstration and cannot be used to establish actual availability.
Good questions.
Clear answers.
Everything you need to know
before taking the next step.
Is the company name check free?
Yes. Namecheck.ie is designed to offer a free first check, without an account. Live register search is not connected yet. You can preview an illustrative result or search the official CRO register on CORE in the meantime.
Does a clear search mean the CRO will approve my name?
No. A search is an initial screening step. Similar names and other naming rules can affect an application. Only the CRO can approve and register a company name.
Is a company name the same as a business name?
They are different registrations. A company name identifies an incorporated company. A business name is a trading name and can be used by a sole trader, partnership or company.
Can I register the matching .ie domain?
You can check the matching domain with hoster.ie. Domain availability is separate from company name availability, and .ie registration has its own eligibility requirements. We never treat a suggested domain as confirmed available.
Where will the company information come from?
Live search is planned to use CRO register data supplied through businesses.ie. Once connected, each successful result will show its search time and the data update time supplied by the API.
How are formation providers selected?
We show three candidate formation providers with published package prices. They are starting points for comparison. Packages and VAT treatment differ; check the provider’s current total and included services before ordering. See our comparison disclosure for details.
