Compare the first registration term, the renewal price, VAT and any services you actually need. Use the registrar’s current checkout and renewal terms; a promotional first-year figure alone does not describe the ongoing cost.
Collect a quote you can reproduce
Write down the exact domain, registration term, currency, quoted price and date. Next, record the renewal price for the same extension and term. Label each amount as VAT-inclusive, VAT-exclusive or unclear. If the tax treatment is unclear, ask for the final payable total before comparing offers.
The .IE registry explains that public registrations and renewals are managed through registrars; it does not sell directly to the public. A registry wholesale announcement is therefore not the price a particular founder will pay at checkout.
Use a three-year worked example
The figures below are invented to explain the calculation. They are not hoster.ie prices or a quote from any provider. Both fictional offers use one-year terms, and the amounts are assumed to be comparable final totals.
| Fictional offer | First year | Annual renewal | Three-year domain total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offer A | €8 | €35 | €8 + €35 + €35 = €78 |
| Offer B | €20 | €22 | €20 + €22 + €22 = €64 |
Offer A has the lower first payment in this exercise. Offer B has the lower three-year total if those assumed renewal rates stay the same. Real prices can change, so a calculation is a comparison aid rather than a guarantee.
Separate the domain from the rest of the website
Make separate lines for website hosting, email mailboxes, setup help and any support package. Add only the services you intend to buy. If a bundle includes a domain for its first year, check what happens at renewal and whether you can retain the domain if you stop using the other services.
Ask who manages the account and how you would obtain the details needed to move provider. A cheap order becomes inconvenient if the business cannot find the account owner or understand the service terms when it needs a change.
Plan the renewal as an operational task
The .IE FAQ directs holders to pay the registrar and follow its renewal process. It also stresses keeping contact details correct. Set your own reminder before the renewal date; do not rely solely on a message arriving in one person’s inbox.
In a fictional two-person studio, one founder holds the account and the other knows where the renewal record is stored. They review the price and payment method before the due date. They also check that the contact address remains reachable if the website itself has a problem.
Use the worksheet before ordering
Your final worksheet should contain registration, two renewals, tax treatment, optional services, term lengths and the source date. Mark unknown amounts clearly rather than filling them with an estimate presented as fact.
We have not verified a current hoster.ie registration-and-renewal quote for this guide. Check the exact address and price with hoster.ie and retain the order details. Our domain suggestions are a starting point; they do not confirm availability or a payable price.
