Company formation timeline in Ireland: plan beyond the filing date

Separate preparation, CRO processing and the later tasks needed for your launch.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Your total formation timeline includes preparation, submission, CRO processing and post-incorporation setup. Published scheme standards are not a promise of a particular registration or business-launch date.

Keep four dates separate

Ask for a timeline with four milestones: information complete, application submitted, incorporation confirmed and the business ready for its intended launch. If a quote only says “formation in a few days”, ask which milestone that describes and what must be ready before the clock starts.

A founder may be able to supply a name immediately while still waiting for a cofounder’s details or professional advice. Record those dependencies explicitly. This makes it easier to compare a provider’s estimate with your own readiness.

Understand the CRO scheme standards

The CRO registration-methods page describes Ordinary Online A1 and Fé Phráinn A1 Online. It publishes an ordinary-scheme aim of ten working days from correctly completed documents being lodged, and a five-working-day standard for the Fé Phráinn scheme. Those are service standards, not guaranteed dates for an individual application.

The CRO says documents are processed in date order; returned documents follow their resubmission date. We have not verified a same-day queue snapshot for 9 October 2026. Ask your presenter to confirm the latest official processing position when you are ready to file.

Put a named owner beside each dependency. The person who designs the website may not be the person authorised to resolve a filing query, so the plan needs more than one overall launch date.

A fictional launch plan with room for uncertainty

Imagine two founders preparing a product demonstration. Their invented company name is “Copper Lantern Tools Limited”. They can draft the presentation and website copy while the application is being prepared. They keep final legal-name references and customer documents pending the official outcome.

They ask the presenter how corrections would be handled and how quickly the founders must reply. They also keep banking, email, domain and any professional registrations as separate tasks, each with its own provider. This example is a planning exercise, not a statement that those tasks are always required or complete on a fixed schedule.

Compare estimates on the same basis

Ask each provider which scheme applies, what its preparation estimate covers and whether the quoted turnaround starts at payment, completed information or official submission. Ask what happens when a proposed name needs a different option.

Do not promise customers a launch date based only on the CRO processing standard. Use our preparation checklist to reduce avoidable gaps and our formation comparison to identify providers to question. Keep a record of the actual dates so your team can update its plan from evidence.
